Workshop about „Civic Education“

AEGEE does not only have local Antennae but has also thematic projects on the European level. Sometimes these seem far away but last Wednesday, 19 October, members got the opportunity to come to know about one of them. Dorothea, member of the Civic Education Working Group (CEWG), gave a workshop on civic education.

At first, she presented what Working Groups in AEGEE do. There is a working group for each focus area and these groups work to meet the goals of the strategic plan. Every year the members change in the groups and this year Dorothea started to work in the CEWG starting from August.

Each Working Group creates an activity plan with the goals of the year. Part of it is to give workshops dealing with topics of civic education. The workshop she did with the members of AEGEE-Mannheim was about civic education in general.
Participants were asked to think about what role civic education plays in their lives and why it is important. Furthermore, participants learned of which different parts civic educations consists of for example human rights, *gender equalty*, environment, sexual education, voting system or volunteering. To achieve this, the participants did a pantomime and drawing game. In general, the participants were very interested and active in the discussion and found many examples of civic education in their daily life. As we suddenly discovered during the discussion that it was already quite late, we had to interrupt and call it a day 🙂

There was a lot of positive feedback of the participants and also Dorothea liked it very much. We thank her very much for this interesting workshop.
